The Finnish private-owned company Delta-Sigma Ltd (owner of Deltamarin Ltd and Deltamarin Contracting Ltd) and the Chinese state-owned company Shandong New Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co., Ltd have established a joint venture company toprovide technical and engineering services to Chinese shipbuilding and marine industry market.

The new company is called Shandong Deltamarin Ship Design Co., Ltd, and its office is located in Weihai City, Shandong Province. The company will start working with personnel of about 30 people, majority of them coming from the engineering department of the shipyard. In the beginning most of the engineering will be provided to the local shipyards but in the next coming years the number of personnel will be risen to about 100 and the market expanded, respectively. Mr. Wu Jian Chun, former Director of Engineering at the shipyard, has been appointed as the Managing Director of the new company.

Shandong Deltamarin will provide to its customers advanced high quality engineering with a reasonable price. Together with Deltamarin Group of companies the joint venture will produce efficient ship concepts, contemporary basic design solutions and production friendly detail engineering. By integrating the services to the overall portfolio of Deltamarin Group the entire field of engineering including project management, planning and procurement support will be covered.

Shandong New Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co., Ltd

Shandong province and Weihai city have ranked shipbuilding and marine industry very high in the strategy of industrial growth and development in the region. Today the Shipyard in Weihai centre has seven ships in the order book, most of them being feeder size container vessels. The shipyard has about 1000 employees and a subcontractor network close to 4000 persons. To foster the further development of marine industry construction works of a new modern shipyard for Shandong New Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co., Ltd have been started in the green-field area outside the city. In the beginning the new yard will focus on container vessels, Panamax-size and bigger bulkers, tankers as well as some special vessels. New facilities are planned to be in full operation in the year 2008.

Combining good design and engineering by Shandong Deltamarin Ship Design Co., Ltd with cost effective production of a brand new shipyard makes it possible to produce vessels, which are both economical to operate and competitive in terms of investment cost.
