Thruster system comparison for a DP Drill Rig

Contents of our commission

The goal of the study was to evaluate four different thruster propulsion options for a DP drill rig from economical and technical point of view. The total installed thruster power was 8 x 2600 kW.

The options were based on either CP- or FP- propeller and powered either by AC- or DC- motors.

All the calculations were based on actual operating profile for the rig.

    Based on earlier feasibility study regarding retractable thrusters for offshore loading (ref. 95) this application study was made on more general level serving different types of vessels (ref. 115).
